There are some books that you should never start reading unless you’re sure you have time to finish them. American Terrorist: Where is the Girl? By Jeffrey Poston is one of them. I started this book last night at 9:00 pm, thinking I’d read a couple of hours, put it away, and finish it today. I reached the last sentence at 1:00 am—unaware of the passage of time.
Great writing. Characters come alive, reaching out from the page and smacking you on the kisser. Dialogue is so realistic you can feel the spittle spraying your face as they sputter. And, the descriptions are so vivid, you smell the sweat of fear. Within an expertly crafted adventure/thriller is also a discourse on government over-reach, the arrogance of power, and the dangers of using what our government euphemistically calls ‘enhanced’ interrogation techniques – in other words, torture. Not only does it risk damaging the mind and body of the victim, but it serves to dehumanize the one who applies it—and it makes more enemies, at a time when they are definitely not needed.
This was book number one of two, and I’m planning to read two as well. Just one question: will there be a number three?

BEST book I've read in a long time! Is the good guy really good? The bad guy bad? In this story, that question comes up frequently. I could not put this book down, kept on reading, got involved emotionally in the story, and immediately bought book 2 when this one came to its conclusion.
An adventure with many twists and turns. Ironically, we never meet or learn much about the girl, but this is not a story about a kidnapping. This is the story of a strong black man and what he becomes when pushed to his limits. I look forward to the sequel.
There isn’t a better time in our culture to check out this novel. It really speaks to the times we are living in and the distress many people face today. Some books offer a great message, but this book goes a bit further by pointing a finger at the wrong doings that are so widely accepted today.
That being said, this book was such a page turner. The writing style makes it simple to sit down and read this book in one or two sittings (if you’re lucky). Everything seems to fly by thanks to all of the action. The story line was well thought out and I couldn’t help but root for Johnson throughout the book.
The book features just about anything you’d want in a read. Believable dialogue, a strong voice, quick wit and humor and plenty of action. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves dramas, thrillers, mysteries…well anything. Just read it, it’s a statement of the time.
"Clarity of purpose is an equalizer." Powerfully intense as Poston lays torture tactics bare with disçriptive heart-pounding details making one wonder does this really happen? The FBI has arrested Carl Johnson a black man, interrogated and tortured by Homeland Security all the while they keep calling him Alfonso Reyes a Mexican drug lord, as they demand to know where the missing girl is. Although he knows nothing no one is listening to him as they torture him daily he is sure they won't stop till he is dead or finds the real kidnapper unless he can escape. Raw and emotionally charged the author is a masterfully gifted storyteller that takes his readers to the edge and back in this gut-wretching psychological thriller that will leave you breathless and emotionally drained as the suspense explodes. A must read for followers of the "Criminal Minds" drama or novels that intrique readers with the capabilities of the human mind when it is pushed to the limits - definitely one not to be missed.
Just finished the jam-packed action that is "American Terrorist Where is the Girl?", and though I am not the average thriller type of gal, I have to say that Poston's novel hit the spot for an awesome page-turner. "American Terrorist Where is the Girl?" took me on an intriguing ride through the mind of a father who found himself with nothing left to lose, who through his journey for vengeance, finds a cause larger than himself that he is willing to champion. I won't give away plot points and spoilers, but Poston's novel is a great read. It opens the door to a series that will absolutely leave the reader begging for more. If you are looking for action, suberfuge, danger, scheming, and a protagonist that isn't your typical muscle-bound twenty-something, look no further. "American Terrorist Where is the Girl?" is now the starting point for your journey.
